Why THE Brian Kendrick really won the CWC

If you’re a wrestling geek – and being honest here, we all are – you’ll have been watching the Cruiserweight Classic on the WWE Network. Amongst the high-flyers, strong style fighters, technical wizards and everything in between, one man stood out for me. As much as I’m a huge fan of Zack Sabre Jr. and Kota Ibushi, I was pulling for THE Brian Kendrick.

Sami Zayn vs. Shinsuke Nakamura

Sami Zayn sat in the ring; crouched in the corner, awaiting his foe for the evening. Game face in place, he looked as intense as he ever has in an NXT ring, even more than he did before the Kevin Owens wars he waged. Those confrontations were fuelled by anger, this one was all about pride.

Thank you Daniel Bryan

April 6th, 2014. WrestleMania 30, inside the Superdome in New Orleans and in front of 70000+ people, Daniel Bryan ascended to the very peak of his profession. Once the bell had tolled to signal his victory, he grabbed his belts, celebrated briefly, and hopped out of the ring.

He made his way to young Connor Michalek at ringside, and with confetti still falling, hugged the 8 year old cancer sufferer. Bryan would by all accounts tell Connor that he was the inspiration he needed to win that night, and that if Bryan could win, then Connor could beat cancer and to keep fighting.

California Dreaming of PWG

The suburb of Reseda in California isn’t at first glance somewhere that you would instantly peg as being inherently famous or influential in any field, yet when it comes to professional wrestling in North America, that’s exactly what it is. Reseda, and specifically the American Legion post #308 that is now the adopted home of Pro Wrestling Guerilla, perhaps the hottest independent promotion in the world right now.
